PBIS

What is PBIS?
St Mary's Primary School runs a student behaviour management and student discipline program based on Positive Behaviour Intervention Support {PBIS} program. PBIS creates positive learning environments by developing proactive whole school systems to define, teach and support appropriate student behaviours.

'At St. Mary's we are building
Responsible, Respectful, Resilient
and Safe Learners'.

An important part of PBIS is reinforcing appropriate behaviour. All members of staff have PBIS cards which they use to reward students with whenever they see students doing the right thing. Giving a PBIS card is a 'teachable moment' with each child being told why they are recieving the reward. This helps reinforce the behaviour we expect.

Each week a PBIS report is included in our school newsletter. Go to Downloads on this website to read our newsletter and find out who this week's PBIS Student of the Week is.

PBIS Matrixes
An important part of PBIS is having a whole school focus on a particular area or activity that we would like to see an improvement in. Our PBIS team creates a matrix of behaviours that we would like all of our students to follow. Each matrix is then used by teachers to model and explicitly teach each behaviour.

PBIS Videos
The introduction of a new PBIS Blitz often means a presentation at assembly. Sometimes classes will roleplay the rules, show a video they have made or simply read out the details of the blitz.  Click on Read more to view our videos.

PBIS Posters
With each new PBIS Blitz comes new ways of reminding our students of our school rules. Making posters is a great visual way to show students, teachers and parents how to act appropriate at school.
